Rick Menard - Head Coach

Rick is beginning his 5th year of coaching for the Melrose Sharks. He began coaching at the High School level at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, MA where he spent five years, having several post season qualifiers. Rick has worked as an assistant coach at the Beverly YMCA and later, YMCA of the North Shore for a total of three years. He served as Head Coach of the Revere YMCA Gators and merged Lynn-Revere Breakers. While there, Rick helped guide three Summer National and two Winter National YMCA qualifiers as well as two current New England record holders. His primary coaching duties are with the National Group swimmers. Rick works as a firefighter in Malden.

Vicky Brienza

Vicky is returning for her 4th season as a Mini-SHARKS coach. A YMCA swimming instructor and swim team parent, Vicky's involvement with the Mini-SHARKS has helped the program grow from one class of 7- and 8-year olds to the three classes of children ages 5-8 enrolled in the program now. Vicky is a key member of our Parent's Committee, where she manages all of our team uniform and equipment orders, and organizes our team photo night.

Cindy Dooman

A former YMCA and collegiate swimmer, Cindy has coached in the Eastern Mass YMCA league for over twenty-five years. She was the head coach, then 8 and under coach, at the West Roxbury-Roslindale YMCA for many years before moving to the North Suburban YMCA in 1996 as the 8 and under coach. A member of the coaching staff at Melrose since 1999, Cindy has coached the Mini-SHARKS pre-competitive group, 8 and under, Juniors and Seniors. In 2001, Cindy coached the 8 and under to place 1st (girls) and 4th (boys) at Districts and 1st in girls and 2nd in combined scoring at New Englands. In 2005, the 8 and under placed 2nd (boys) and 3rd (girls) at both Districts and New Englands. Cindy guided the 9-10 girls to first at Districts and New Englands in 2003, and helped coach the 11-12 girls to place 1st at Districts and New Englands in 2005. This season Cindy is coaching the Mini-SHARKS and 8 and under. Cindy recently earned her master's degree in Library Science from Simmons College.

Katy Driscoll

Katy is in her 2nd year with the Sharks. She will be working with the Senior and National swimmers. A recent graduate of Wagner College, Katy works in insurance underwriting. Katy began her swimming career relatively late, at age 13, as a member of the North Suburban YMCA. After two years at NSYV, she joined the Sharks, and was a three-time Nationals qualifier. A member of the swim team at Wagner all four years, Katy qualified for ECAC's and was captain of the squad her senior year.   Katy works with the National and Senior groups. In 2007, Katy led the 11-12 year old boys to a 1st place victory at Eastern Mass Districts

Chris Hill

Chris is in his 5th year with the Sharks. Previously, he served as an assistant coach at the Revere Gators, the Lynn-Revere Breakers, and the YNS Sharks for a total of six years. Chris is the pool manager at the Garfield School in Revere where he also instructs all levels of Red Cross Aquatics. Chris is a former YMCA swimmer (Lynn YMCA) and High School competitor (B.C. High). In 2005, Chris led the 9-10 boys to 3rd place at Districts. In 2008, Chris led the 9-10 boys to 1st place victory at EMass District Championships.  Chris works with the Junior Squad.

Kerry Manning-Denny

Kerry is in her 3rd year with the Sharks after many years as an instructor and lifeguard at the YMCA. Kerry is a full time student at Salem State College. Kerry swam for Arlington Catholic High School and also instructs lessons at Boorgard Beach in Winchester. In 2008, Kerry led the 9-10 boys to 1st place victory at EMass District Championships.  Kerry coaches the Junior Squad.

Ricky Noonan

This season is Ricky's 8th year of coaching with the Melrose Sharks. Ricky began his swim career at the Boys and Girls Club, then moved on to Malden Catholic and Salem State College. He has been an instructor and lifeguard at Melrose and Winchester Recreational Departments. Rick is a high school teacher in Salisbury. Ricky works with the National and Senior 1/2 groups. In 2007, Ricky led the 11-12 year old boys to a 1st place victory at Eastern Mass Districts.
