About the Sharks

The Melrose Sharks Swim Team is a mission driven program based on the belief that all children can reach their full potential, as both an athlete and an individual, when given proper guidance and opportunity. The YMCA character values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty are exhibited daily by our coaching staff and in return expected from our swimmers. Full attention is given to all swimmers who actively partake in the program, regardless of talent.

Competitive swimming is the sport our children participate in today; the experiences of self-determination, self-confidence, setting goals, perseverance, working hard, making friends, having fun, team-work and leadership shall last a lifetime.

The Melrose YMCA Sharks Swim Team competes in Division 1 of the Eastern Massachusetts YMCA District in addition to USA Swimming. From beginner to YMCA National level, the program is open to "mini-sharks"  through high school

These fees cover pool practice times, coaches salaries, insurance, offices supplies, dual meets and now championship meets among other incidentals.

In addition, all YMCA Swim Team Members MUST be a full-privileged member of their YMCA   (Melrose) for at least 30 days prior to your 1st competition as stated by the league. You may be part of a family membership or an individual member.

Mini Sharks and Pre-Competitive

These groups have a different fee schedule that will follow the YMCA Swim Lessons Schedule. They only need to have a membership and renew each time as swim lessons. Apparel and Credits are both optional but encouraged to enhance both the swimmer and the families experience with the sport.

Meet Fees

This year we will are trying to avoid the "nickel and diming" of families that occurs frequently around championship time. Therefore, we have created a "meet fee" to cover the costs of championships for YMCA meets (Districts, New Englands & Nationals). This covers all entry fees, relays and coaches travel to these meets.  A family cap of $180.00 will be set.

Credits

As usual, all families will be required to satisfy their 10 volunteer credits (same as last year). If you choose to OPT OUT, you may buy your credits for $20/credit ($200) as in the past. However, we must stress that we prefer your involvement a whole lot more than your money...it's fun and shows that how much you support your childs activities.

Apparel

Required Uniform: team cap, for long hair (around $4), Team t-shirt (around $13), Team Suit (around $50 for girls, $30 for boys)..other items will be available as optional gear or gifts. (Girls @ $67.00 Boys @ $43-$47 )

USA Swimming (optional)
